I built a successful career as a financial advisor, managing more than $135 million in client assets before retiring. Blind since May 6, 1980, I’ve also served as a commencement speaker at multiple high school graduations and as a motivational speaker for corporations. In addition, I had the opportunity to teach at Georgetown University for 13 years, sharing insights on investment and financial planning strategies. Today, I’m the founder and host of The Blind Broker Show, a podcast where I share perspectives on the current and evolving financial landscape.
ABOUT CHRISTOPHER HARVEY
Experience That Goes Beyond the Numbers
Chris Harvey earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Shepherd College (now Shepherd University). It was near the end of his junior year at Shepherd when Chris was struck in a random shooting and immediately blinded.
The paradigm shift to a life without sight at the age of 20 was overwhelming, but Chris quickly determined to rise to the occasion. He subsequently seized numerous opportunities to do things that were the first time a blind person had done them.
Returning to Shepherd College three months after being blinded, he moved back into the same house where he was shot and graduated with honors on a four-year schedule. He then became the first blind person to earn the Master of Arts in Economics degree from the University of Virginia and the first blind person to use talking computers in the brokerage industry, as featured in Registered Representative magazine in 1983. As he built his financial advisor career, Chris was the first blind person to teach investment and financial planning strategy at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. in three Saturday formats from 1985 to 1998.
